About

R. Caroline Stampliaka completed her Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Sociocultural Anthropology and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Sociocultural Anthropology with a focus on Environmental Anthropology, both at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include traditional ecological knowledge systems, political ecology, multispecies ethnography, anthropology of food systems, oral histories, and the expressive culture of the Mediterranean, with a geographical focus on Southern Europe and Greece. Caroline grew up in a Greek-Austrian-Canadian family, living between Germany and Greece, and moved to Vancouver, Canada, in 2019 to pursue higher education.


Research

Caroline’s current master’s research project, “An Ethnographic Exploration of Migratory Beekeeping in Greece,” supported by a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), aims to document the sustainable and traditional practice of nomadic beekeeping in Greece, amid the challenges posed by climate change and the austerity crisis.
