Join us for an evening of stories from recent UBC Anthropology graduates who have successful alt-ac (alternative-academic) careers. We’ve invited a panel of grads with a variety of experiences to discuss some of the possible career paths once you graduate with your Anthropology degree.

Junior Researcher, The Firelight Group.
Inbar Av-Shalom is a junior researcher supporting the Indigenous Knowledge Research and Health teams at Firelight. She has worked on a variety of health projects in the fields of health professional education and perinatal care supporting the analysis of lived experiences of culturally safe and respectful service provision for Indigenous patients.
Director of Education, Vancouver Heritage Foundation
A UBC and LOA alum, Sarah has worked in the museums and heritage field for the past 13 years and is currently the Director of Education at Vancouver Heritage Foundation.
Research Coordinator, BC Centre on Substance Use
Anthropologist and storyteller Sophie McKenzie is interested in harnessing the power of music, film, and dance to facilitate social change. Currently working as a Research Coordinator responsible for implementing research and knowledge translation activities for the Youth Health Team at the BC Centre on Substance Use.

Morgan Ritchie is the Heritage & Environment Manager in the Xwiléxmet Department at Sts’ailes, helping to ensure that activities within Sts’ailes territory align with Sts’ailes’s values and traditional laws. On behalf of Sts’ailes, Morgan undertakes and supports multi-disciplinary initiatives designed to promote and enhance ecological health and resiliency, social well-being, and cultural revitalization.
