Abstract
Zo
oMS is a relatively new technique that identifies bones through their collagen protein. It offers a less expensive and less complex alternative to DNA analysis, while still delivering remarkable results. Traditionally a laboratory-based approach, a new polishing film rubbing method used here at UBC ADaPT laboratory is being examined for possible applications by non-academic archaeologists. This minimally invasive approach can help identify bones while leaving them closer to the location where they were found.

About Doris Loewen

Doris is a Master’s student working with Dr Camilla Speller and the ADaPT lab at UBC. She is excited to be sharing practical applications of ZooMS bone identification technology with Indigenous communities, private CRM companies and academics.
