Research

Korea, Identity, Image, Gay Identity, Sacred Spaces

Research summary:

My research focuses on how social pressures and structures create and influence methods of reconciling alternative forms of identity in a larger cultural context. In particular gay identity in South Korea. My previous ethnographic research lead to a model of identity formation in the Korean context. I am interested in furthering this research to discover the impact of existing image based and traditional cultural standards on gay identity, as well as said identities’ plasticity when interfacing with different spaces.
