Title: “Witness to the Human Rights Tribunals: How the System Fails Indigenous Peoples”

Abstract from the Speaker: “I draw on my work as an expert in human rights cases, and my detailed ethnographies of these and other cases, together with an examination of years of tribunal decisions to show how specific cases are fought. My analysis isn’t limited to what happens in the tribunal halls, and considers the long process Indigenous complainants face in bringing their cases through the BC human rights system. This analysis reveals the double-edged nature of the tribunal itself, which re-engages with the trauma and violence of discrimination that suffuses social and legal systems while it attempts to protect human rights.”
