2024 Dr. Dan Small Prize Awardees Announced

Congratulations to Anthropology MA student Caroline Stampliaka and undergraduate student Parla Azarvash on receiving the Dr. Dan Small Prize for their work in the 2024 Urban Ethnographic Field School.

The Dr. Dan Small Prize is given out by the Urban Ethnographic Field School (UEFS) every year, at the conclusion of the course in August. The prize is awarded in recognition of outstanding final student projects completed with community partners during the course.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Dr. Dan Small Prize alongside Caroline. I am grateful to Dr. Shiva and Dr. Wilkes who taught me so much; as well as to the local neighbourhood houses and organizations that are doing important work. Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible, and congratulations to Caroline on her outstanding project.”

About UEFS
The Urban Ethnographic Field School runs every year in the first Summer term. As a fieldwork-based course, UEFS trains students on how to conduct in-depth, community-based research concerned with the social, political, cultural and economic lives of urban Vancouver residents. By immersing themselves in ethnographic research (online and/or in-person), students gain valuable experience linking hands-on research in the classroom to theoretical paradigms.
