A Relational Unfolding: Reflections on Fostering Conditions for Transdisciplinary Education

Congratulations to Felix Giroux (Anthropology PhD) on their first publication.

A Relational Unfolding: Reflections on Fostering Conditions for Transdisciplinary Education was co-authored by Giroux, Derek Gladwin (UBC Language and Literacy Education), Naoko Ellis (UBC Chemical & Biological Engineering) and Ira Sutherland (UBC Forestry) and was published in World Futures, journal of new paradigm research this month.

World Futures provides a venue for leading edge, creative, transdisciplinary contributions. It encourages the application of new ways of thinking and approaches that draw on the intersection of the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities.

Abstract:

In this article we unfold our pedagogical process of how we have shifted our perspectives as transdisciplinary researchers and educators. Through a collaborative autoethnographic self‑study, this article draws on our personal and reflective experiences as collaborating researchers, educators, graduate students, and professors in a year‑long Collaborative Transdisciplinary PhD Pilot Program on Climate Action. We adopt an affective‑relational‑cognitive (ARC) framework that supports conditions for transdisciplinary research and education. The findings of our study shed light on the intricate dynamics that emerge through relational engagement, providing further insights on co‑creating conditions for transdisciplinary research.
