Anthropology Sessional Teaching — Winter 2020 – 2021 Term 2


The Department of Anthropology seeks applicants for Sessional Winter appointment. The salary depends on rank and experience.  Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology or have been advanced to full candidacy by the application deadline (August 14, 2020).


Ph.D. candidates at UBC must have the approval of their supervisors for taking up sessional positions and have the authorization of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (GP+S) to teach as sessional instructors.  Please access the forms here: Supervisor’s Approval – Sessional Instructor and GP+S Permission to Teach Form. The settlement of any outstanding fees may be a precondition for such authorization.


The appointment is subject to budgetary funding and a minimum enrollment of 35 students is normally required by the Faculty of Arts; courses with enrollments below that number may be cancelled.

3 credits, M-W-F, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM


ANTH 312-2003, Anthropology of Gender
credits, M-W, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM


ARCL 325-002, Paleoanthropology
3 credits, T-R, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM


ARCL 405-002, Archaeological & Anthropological Mapping
3 credits,  F, 1:00 PM –  4:00 PM

In Winter term 2, it is most likely courses will continue to be offered online. Many courses will be blended, with asynchronous and synchronous delivery.  However, this is subject to change.  We will update our website as soon as we determine the final status of Term 2 of the Winter Session.

Applications must include a current CV, a course outline and reading list for each proposed course, the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three referees.

For current UBC graduate students, you must also include the completed signed Supervisor’s Approval – Sessional Instructor form with your Sessional application package.


The deadline for submitting applications: Friday, August 14, 2020.

Completed applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting on that date and continuing until the position is filled.


All positions are subject to availability of funds and will be governed by UBC’s “Agreement on Conditions of Appointment for Sessional Faculty Members.” (
