Caroline Stampliaka Receives American Folklore Society Award

Congratulations to Anthropology MA student Caroline Stampliaka on taking home the Fernand Braudel Mediterranean Folklore Graduate Student Prize from the American Folklore Society (Mediterranean Section).

Caroline’s winning paper, Embodied Wisdom: Traditional Healing and Vernacular Religion in Evros, Greece is also her undergraduate Honours project. She will present a version of the paper at the upcoming annual meeting of the American Folklore Society in November, and she will also present a brief overview of her work at the annual Mediterranean Section dinner where she will be a guest of honour.

“This recognition holds great significance for me, as it acknowledges the importance of Mediterranean ethnography but also acts a reminder of the importance of amplifying and preserving traditional ecological knowledge systems and cultural heritage as these offer valuable insights into the resilience and adaptability of communities facing various challenges.”

Caroline’s paper is available through UBC library open collections by clicking on the link below.
